In one sentence

E-E-A-T stands for Experience, Expertise, Authoritativeness and Trustworthiness, the qualities Google uses to judge whether content deserves trust, and they shape which stores search and AI treat as credible.

What each part of E-E-A-T means for an online store

  • Experience: You've used the product. Real photos, testing notes, fit details from wearing it.
  • Expertise: You know the category. Clear guides, accurate specs, answers to hard questions.
  • Authoritativeness: Others vouch for you. Reviews, press, links and mentions from respected sites.
  • Trustworthiness: Shoppers can rely on you. Clear pricing, contact details, return policy, secure checkout, honest claims.

Google calls trust the most important of the four.

Is E-E-A-T a ranking factor?

Not a single one. E-E-A-T comes from Google's guidelines for the people who rate search quality. It describes what Google's systems try to reward, using many signals rather than one E-E-A-T score.

In practice, the things that build E-E-A-T, like real reviews, expert content and clear policies, are the same things that help you rank and get named by AI.

Why E-E-A-T matters for ecommerce brands

Shoppers hand over money and card details, so search engines hold stores to a high trust bar. A store with no About page, vague returns and no reviews gives search and AI little reason to recommend it.

AI assistants look for the same signals. They favor brands that trusted sources mention and that state their facts clearly.

How to improve E-E-A-T on your store

  1. Write an About page that says who's behind the brand and why.
  2. Make shipping, returns, warranty and contact details easy to find.
  3. Add real product photos and first-hand details from using the product.
  4. Put named experts behind buying guides, with a short bio.
  5. Earn reviews and mentions on independent sites.

E-E-A-T FAQs

Does E-E-A-T apply to product pages or only blog posts?

Both. Product pages build trust through accurate specs, real photos, reviews and clear policies. Buying guides build it through expertise and experience.

Do I need author bios on my store's content?

For buying guides and advice, yes. A named author with relevant experience is a clear expertise signal. Product pages don't need one.

Does E-E-A-T affect AI answers?

Google hasn't said AI answers use E-E-A-T by name. But AI assistants lean on trusted sources, and the same signals that build E-E-A-T make you one.
